Evangelos Koronios
Evangelos (Aggelos) Koronios (Greek: Ευάγγελος (Άγγελος) Κορωνιός; born March 16, 1969 in Athens) is a Greek professional basketball coach and a retired professional basketball player.
Club career
A 1.86 m play maker, Koronios started his career with Peristeri in 1982. In 1998, he moved to AEK Athens where he played for two seasons. Then he continued his career in PAOK (2000–01), Maroussi for two seasons (2001–03), Panionios (2003–04) and finally Olympiacos (2004–05).
Coaching career
In 2005-06 Koronios started his coaching career as a head coach in Alimos. The next year (2006–07) he was coaching Sporting, and won the Greek A2 Championship.
In the summer of 2007, he was appointed as the new AEK Athens coach, but he decided to resign "for personal reasons" on October 25. He was then appointed the new coach of AEK, following the departure of Minas Gekos in January 2011.
Achievements as a player
- Won the Greek Cup in 2000 with AEK.
- Won the Saporta Cup in 2000 with AEK.
- Won the silver medal with the national team of Greece at the 1991 Mediterranean Games.
- He is the all time first scorer of Greek Championship with 7,080 points scored (since the 1992-93 season).
- He was the all time leader in games played in the Greek Championships (since the 1992-93 season) with 448, when he retired.
- He is the all time leader in three pointers made in the Greek Championship (since the 1992-93 season).
- He is the all time leader steals in the Greek Championship (since the 1992-93 season).
- He played in the Greek All Star Games of 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000.
- He won the three-point shoot-out at the 2004 Greek All Star Game.
- Member of the Greek Basketball Hall of Fame, inducted as a player.
